Volunteer At South Mountain Dairy!
Kidding Season
Would you like to join our "Kidding Season Volunteer Program"?Kidding seasons starts at South Mountain Dairy March 15th, and we can use some help!
Volunteers will be asked to help bottle feed baby goats, dry off newborns, or clean the kidding barn after a birth to prepare for the next goat in labor.

We try to attend every birth on the farm. Some days we spend hours sitting and waiting in the barn for the doe to deliver. Other days we find we barely have time to get the barn cleaned before the next doe delivers.
We can't guarantee that you will be on the farm when a goat is born, but we CAN promise that you will have an opportunity to help feed lots of baby goats.
If you happen to be here when a kid is born, you will be asked to help dry them off and keep them warm.

We hand raise all of our baby goats. This not only ensures that they will grow up to be easy to handle, but it also ensure their health. CAE, a retrovirus that causes a goat type of arthritis, is passed through the milk. By pasteurizing the milk before feeding it to the babies, CAE is prevented from spreading should the virus become active in any of the producing does. Sixty-some does are due to kid between March 15th and March 30th. We bottle feed the babies individually for at least one week. As you can see, we will have lots of babies to feed, and can use the extra help!
